5 Video Hacks To Save Time

Most video advice focuses on expensive gear or complex editing. But the best tricks? They’re stupidly simple.

Here are 5 techniques I teach my clients that instantly make social media videos feel more professional, without adding extra work.

1. THE 3-SECOND RULE

Those awkward seconds before you speak? They feel 10x longer to viewers than to you.

Start recording → Count to 3 → Then speak.

In editing, cut everything before your first word. Your videos instantly feel sharper and more confident.

My Secret: Use your phone’s trim feature. Takes 5 seconds, changes everything.

2. The Batch Mindset

Recording one video at a time is inefficient, to say the least. You took time to get camera ready and amped yourself up to record. Why waste that on just one video?

Instead:

→ Block 30-60 minutes
→ Record 4-5 videos in one session
→ Same outfit, same setup, different topics

You’ll stay in flow, save time setting up, and actually enjoy the process.

My Secret: Plan your short form videos so you record all sitting, all sitting videos so you don’t have to change your setup.

3. The “It’s Not About You” Shift

When was the last time you watched a video and thought

→ that guy could stand to lose a few pounds
→ that woman is too old to be doing video
→ that person should get a better camera

Probably never.

People watching your video aren’t judging you either.

Nobody cares what you look or sound like. They care if your message is relevant to them.

Before recording, ask yourself: “How does this help my viewer?”

When you focus on serving, rather than performing, your authenticity skyrockets. And that’s what people actually want.

My Secret: Focus on the message, not how you look. And work on getting over yourself.

4. The One Line Method

Stop trying to nail the perfect take. Write a short script or bullet points, then record one line at a time.

Here’s why it works:

→ No more stumbling halfway through a 2-minute take
→ Each line gets your full energy and focus
→ Editing becomes simple (just trim and connect)
→ You’ll finish in half the time

This method alone has saved my clients hours of frustration recording and editing their social media videos. Perfect delivery every time, without the pressure.

My Secret: Pause 2 seconds between lines. Makes editing even faster, too, because you can see gaps in your timeline.

5. The Permission Slip

Stop waiting to feel ready. You have permission to:

→ Post videos with imperfect lighting
→ Stumble over words occasionally
→ Share ideas before they’re “complete”
→ Be yourself instead of a polished version

My Secret: If it helps one person, it was worth posting. Perfect is boring. Human is what people want.

Going Forward

Video isn’t about being perfect. It’s about showing up. These 5 tips take minutes to learn but transform how you show up on camera. Pick one. Try it this week.

Your audience is waiting for your message, not your perfect videos.
